婚活 (kon-katsu)

kon=short version of marriage (kekkon). katsu=short version of activity (katsudou).

Like "syuusyoku-katsudou" (job hunting), many people are going to clubs and activities aimed at finding marriage partners.

Almost 16% of Japanese men have never married. And almost 50% of 30-34 year old men are single. (2005)

震災離婚 (shinsai-rikon)

shinsai=earthquake disaster.rikon=divorce

After the Hanshin Dai shinsai (Kobe earthquake in 1995), a husband escaped from the disaster without his wife.

But now, if a husband has to transfer from the West to the Northeast, his wife doesn't come because she worries about radiation.

I hope people will 震災婚 (shinsai-kon) : kon=short version of "marriage" instead of divorce.
